Inside Out (#1)
Paperback: 384 pages
Published: April 1, 2010
Amazon Summary:
"Keep Your Head Down.
Or Else.
I'm Trella. I'm a scrub. A nobody. One of thousands who work the lower levels, keeping Inside clean for the Uppers. I've got one friend, do my job and try to avoid the Pop Cops. So what if I occasionally use the pipes to sneak around the Upper levels? The only neck at risk is my own…until I accidentally start a rebellion and become the go-to girl to lead a revolution."
My thoughts:
WOW! I am in love with this series. I flew through his book in two days. I could NOT put it down. It was so addicting and action packed. I kept telling myself "One more chapter....One more chapter"... I am now reading the second book in the series. I hope there will be a third!

Uppers and Lowers (aka Scrubs) make up the two types of people that live "Inside". The lowers must work non-stop to keep up with the maintenance of their living space. Trella (Yay! Trella! Love her!) is a scrub but finds solace in the pipes. She explores the vast interior of Inside and is nick-named "Queen of the Pipes" (Slight mockery there). Trella is a (cover your ears) bad-ass. She is so strong and ....wow, does she ever sleep? I loved her character.
I love that Trella and Riley's relationship grew slowly. Most YA novels are like BAM! Instantaneous Love connection. Trella and Riley seemed to build on a friendship instead of falling in love right away. It was so refreshing to read instead of a forced love connection.
The ending was amazing. The story wrapped up in a tidy way, so we aren't left with a horrendous CLIFFHANGER (AHHH!), but left enough open questions that I was excited for the second book. As soon as I finished the book I told my husband...That was the BEST ending EVER! So seriously, the ending was the cherry on the Sundae. Incredible!!!!
There are so many twists and turns in this book. It's non-stop action page after page. I loved it and can't remember flipping pages that quickly since The Hunger Games.
I really enjoyed 99% of this book and wouldn't change a thing. The only thing that annoyed me was the dates and ages....It was hard for me to grasp how they were calculated with the 100 weeks and centi-years and all that. It was so confusing to me, and after awhile I stopped trying to figure out how old everyone REALLY was or exactly how much time had elapsed. That was pretty much the ONLY element that I didn't like in this book. Other than something that's super-spoiler-ish so I don't really want to say it, but what happened to one of the main character's at the end. I DID NOT LIKE. But, the book was so awesome it doesn't negate my 5-star review!

I am really looking forward to reading this book now that I saw your review!
ReplyDeleteI read this book last month and also really enjoyed it! I totally agree about how the slower building relationship between Trella and Riley was much better than a lot of instant love stories out there. It felt so natural and real, and was built on a friendship. The ages and years were really hard for me to keep track of too!
