Book Review: The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder

The Day Before
Author: Lisa Schroeder
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Hardcover: 307 pages
Published: June 28, 2011

GoodReads Summary:

Amber’s life is spinning out of control. All she wants is to turn up the volume on her iPod until all of the demands of family and friends fade away. So she sneaks off to the beach to spend a day by herself.
Then Amber meets Cade. Their attraction is instant, and Amber can tell he’s also looking for an escape. Together they decide to share a perfect day: no pasts, no fears, no regrets.
The more time that Amber spends with Cade, the more she’s drawn to him. And the more she’s troubled by his darkness. Because Cade’s not just living in the now—he’s living each moment like it’s his last.

My thoughts:
When I read this book I was....enraptured? Is that a word?! I was completely engrossed in the story. I read it very quickly in just one or two sittings. The book is written in verse format which I completely love.( I'm a HUGE Ellen Hopkins fan!) It was exactly the book I was searching for. I normally follow (albeit, loosely) a reading/review calendar, but as soon as I saw the synopsis I knew it was exactly what I needed to read that day.

It's funny how I can get a full emotional range from such a few words. She can give you all the emotions that another book would take 400 full pages to develop. I really loved the relationship between Amber and Cade. It didn't seem like that insta-perma love (even though it takes place in just a day). You could feel the attraction between them.

The reasons why it was each of their "last day" were very original. I would love to be able to discuss them in detail, but I don't want to get spoiler-ish. I thought that Amber's reason behind her "last day" was actually kind of weird. It seems like anyone's worst nightmare. I can't believe it actually happened to her.

I hope we get to hear more from Amber and Cade, I would love to find out more about their stories. I will definitely be picking up more of her books!

Judge a Book By It's Cover:  Cute. I don't really have much to say about it. It's not particularly eye-catching. I haven't seen it "IN THE WILD" yet, so maybe it will have more of an impact then.

  4 Stars!

  2. I loved this book and can't wait to read more from Lisa. I agree that although the characters meet in one day it doesn't feel like instant love. Thanks for the great review.
