To say I love anything written by Ellen Hopkins is an understatement. I ADORE her books. Crank and Glass are both easily some of my favorite books EVER. I was really excited when I found out that Ellen Hopkins was releasing an adult novel.

Like her other books, this one is written in verse. It amazes me how she conveys in just a few words what other authors take an entire paragraph to express. The emotion bleeds on to the page.

I really enjoyed how the stories were all easily believable. I'm sure we've either been the person in one of these situations or have known someone that these things have happened to. When I finished the book I just felt overwhelmed and almost....vulnerable. The reality of their stories and that they can and do happen to your friends or even yourself really makes you think.

I truly became invested in each of the characters lives.  As I get older I find myself questioning the things I always thought I knew. Sometimes I think of the "what if's" in life.  Things I always thought I wanted don't seem as important as I thought they would be. I was almost....relieved to say that these are normal questions that the characters asked throughout the story.

We know from Ellen Hopkin's other books that she does not shy away from the tough issues in life. This book explores marriage, infidelity, self-image, sexual orientation, aging, terminal illness, alcoholism, indifferent spouses and friendship...This novel has it all. This is not a clean novel by any means. It covers some very "adult" issues. I wouldn't suggest this to teens, but I think it's very relevant for adults.

I always look forward to each and every book that Ellen Hopkins writes. She always finds a way to mix beauty in with reality. I wish that there was another author that I could say is comparable to her writing. Her voice is so realistic and unique, I honestly am drawing a blank on what other book I could say is similar.

Judge a Book by the Cover: Even if I had no idea who the author was or I knew nothing about this book, I don't think I'd be able to pass by it in the bookstore. This is one of my favorite covers of the year. The font is gorgeous. I'm normally not a fan of faces on a book cover, so I love that it doesn't show her whole face. Plus, I have a shirt that looks just like that!
